A Message from the LWVUS

Dear Friend,

The League urges you to participate in Sunshine Week 2008, a nonpartisan effort to enlighten and empower citizens to take part in their government and ensure access to the information that makes their lives better and their communities stronger.

Our democracy only works when citizens stay informed and actively participate in government.

Recent research shows that nearly nine in ten Americans think it's important to know presidential and congressional candidates' positions on open government when deciding who to vote for. That is why, in this critical election year, the League's work to promote government transparency and accountability is more important than ever.

During Sunshine Week 2008, Leagues throughout the country are striving to protect our democracy and hold our government accountable for its actions.

Sincerely,

Mary G. Wilson

President, League of Women Voters
